Abstract

Lateral transshipment is a key concept in the field of supply chain management, enabling increased flexibility and efficiency in the distribution of goods. In this context, lateral transshipment refers to the practice of transferring goods from one mode of transport to another within a single hub or logistics facility, bypassing the conventional point of origin.

Lateral transhipment is often used in logistics centers or ports where goods need to be redirected to their final destination after being received. This can happen between trucks, ships and trains, allowing the most appropriate modes of transport to be used according to the customer's specific needs or geographical constraints.

Tunisia, as a logistics hub between Africa and Europe, plays a crucial role in modern supply chains. Lateral transshipment, a method of transferring goods from one mode of transport to another without passing through the point of origin or final destination, has become a key element to optimize supply chain operations in this context.
